Product design

I have been a product designer for a while now, specializing in items for children.

I didn't apply for the job. I just developed into having this role by accident. I used to make Amazon listing images for a client, and he had a few ideas at some point, and then I designed some items for him on the side. We didn't really expect them to sell so well at first, but they did, so their team in Hong Kong / Guangdong made product design a more permanent job for me. My background as a preschool teacher's daughter certainly helps in this job- I was exposed to a lot of children growing up. The toys are now mass-produced in Guangdong and then sold in Amazon US and UK.

It always feels great to sell considerably well and have good reviews, though of course I encounter a few bumps on the road from time to time- like the choice of materials being of low quality, and the final product not having the exact colors I planned for it. But generally, I am doing 75% okay as a product designer, I think. XD That is not bad, considering I just follow my gut and have no special training in industrial or product design whatsoever.

This section demonstrates my capability to create original work, skill in art curation, and ability to repurpose available vector graphics, for example, in the case of kites because they really do need to be adjusted so that the shape is conducive to flying.

Because of my high volume of work in this area, I’m featuring only the ones that are selling relatively well, and some upcoming ones. Purchase any of them on Amazon if something catches your eye! Just be wary of high shipping fees if you’re ordering from the Philippines. :)

Dinosaur Party Bags

My current bestseller. These were made with curated graphics- the dinosaur artwork and backgrounds come from different sources (their licenses were purchased, of course) and I just laid out the design on each bag.

Halloween Infinity Cube

This sold a lot during Halloween 2022, so it made me feel more confident about my curating ability. I actually just curated some graphics and stuck them all over an orange infinity cube.

Dinosaur Busy Board

I have several original busy board designs and this is my bestselling one. If you have toddlers, this is a fun and educational way to keep them busy during long trips or while you are working from home. It's not too expensive, either!

Car Busy Board

I’m particularly pleased with the production of this one. They followed my specs and colors very closely. It’s made of soft material; kids can sleep with it in their arms if they want to.

Fire Truck Busy Board

Out of all my busy board designs, I think this is the most eye-catching one.

Unicorn Busy Board

Another original busy board design, more geared towards girls this time.

Excavator Truck Busy Board

This had been the most difficult to create because I couldn’t imagine (at first) how I was going to fit the shape of an excavator truck into a rectangular space. Something worked, after a few trial and error rounds XD. My client was determined to come up with a unique product.

Fruit Paddle Toss and Catch

This is the only toss and catch ball set on Amazon with this kind of design. :) I laid these out using curated graphics. They’re selling relatively well.

Wooden Leaf Puzzle

This came out really well in production, and I believe the design caters to adults, also. Looks great as a decorative item in the home. The colorful leaves are curated artwork, but the puzzle shapes and layout are plotted by yours truly.

Shark Kite

I made a lot of kites for my client, and this is my best-selling one. I’ve been thinking that I should patent the original fin shapes on this one because it took a lot of trial and error work from me and my client’s team to get them right, so that the kite would fly well.

Geoboard Puzzle Set

Original puzzle designs which I plotted in Adobe ID. Helps kids develop their geometrical/spatial abilities and motor skills.

Candy House Tent

Possibly the craziest item I ever produced. It entailed looking at hundreds of candy graphics to curate from, and almost crashed my laptop while I was laying it out on the die cut.

Bath Bomb Stress Balls

I airbrushed these designs on my iPad. They’re supposed to look like bath bombs, but when they came out of the factory I wasn’t not too sure if this intention was expressed. Though, they’re still very colorful and fun to squeeze, so who cares if they look like bath bombs or not? XD

Parrot Kite

Another kite design. I sourced the head of the parrot and just tweaked the overall design from the neck down, so it will fly.

Unicorn Pop Toy

The unicorn pop toy (top right) included in this set is my original design, plotted in Adobe Illustrator.
